Virgil van Dijk is keen to play for his fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman at Southampton.

The 23-year-old Celtic defender is also wanted by Sunderland and Swansea, but Van Dijk would prefer to work with the Saints' new boss.

Celtic want at least £10million for the centre-back, but Southampton, set to rake in around double that amount from the sale of their Croatia defender Dejan Lovren to Liverpool, can easily afford that.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan and Sampdoria are keen on Saints’ Italian bad boy Dani Osvaldo, 28, with the south coast club ready to farm the striker out on loan.

Koeman also wants to sign the ‘Dutch Xavi’ - his old Feyenoord captain Jordy Clasie.
