The Los Angeles Rams will nam Joe Barry assistant head coach to Sean McVay and the linebackers coach, per Peter Schrager of FOX Sports. Barry has spent the past two seasons working alongside McVay with the Washington Redskins, with Barry acting as the defensive coordinator, while McVay was the offensive coordinator.

Barry was at the head of the Redskins’ defensive coaches exodus that opened their off-season. Head coach Jay Gruden decided to remove the entire defensive staff, despite coming up just a half game short of a playoff bid, losing on the season’s final weekend 19-10 to the New York Giants when a win would have clinched a playoff berth.

He got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at his alma mater of USC in 1994. After circumnavigating the coaching map, he returned to Southern Cal in 2010 as the team’s linebackers coach, but stayed just one season, opting to head back to the NFL.
