Victorino, Lidge impressive in rehab outings

"There are little things that you take for granted when you spend a great deal of time in the major leagues.

One of those is that the clubhouse guy will always have a fitted hat in your size inside the locker when you arrive.

So if Shane Victorino needed any reminder at 4:45 on Saturday afternoon when he arrived at Waterfront Park in Trenton that he was indeed back in the minors — if only for a day or two — all he had to do was take off his cap and adjust the plastic strap on the back of it.

Yes, the same kind that you would buy at the souvenir stand.

"The rumor is that they don't have anymore fitted caps," Victorino joked afterward. "So I'll be out there (today) with my velco strapped hat."

After the way he looked Saturday night, however, it is clear that Victorino — sidelined since early July because of a thumb injury suffered in Toronto — is just passing through on this minor-league experience. He went 3-for-5 with a double, two singles and an RBI during Reading's 13-2 win on Saturday night over Trenton.

"It felt all right," Victorino said. "A couple of hits ... I can't complain."

That wasn't the only good rehab news for the Phillies on this night from Trenton. Former closer Brad Lidge, making his fifth rehab assignment in his attempt to return from a right rotator cuff strain that has kept him out for the entire season, tossed a scoreless seventh inning, bouncing back from a poor appearance on Thursday night.

Lidge threw 12 pitches, struck out one and seemed to have more command of his fastball and slider."
