It took 154 games to end the streak, but Monday night Victor Martinez struck out looking for the first time since May 21, 2013. Martinez had been struck out only three times in 2014 until Monday evening, and it took him over a month to accumulate his fourth.

The previous caught-looking was on the road against the Cleveland Indians in the top of the ninth inning. Matt Albers was the closing pitcher for the Indians and the score was 5-1 in favor of the Tigers. Prince Fielder had hit a single to right field, scoring Omar Infante. With Miguel Cabrera on second and Andy Dirks on third with two out, Martinez struck out looking on a 3-2 pitch.

This time, Martinez stepped to the plate with Torii Hunter at third base after a messy effort by the Tigers to evade some outs resulted in a less-than-appealing 3-5 double play with Ian Kinsler out at home.
