Those 15- to 20-foot shots that look as if they scrape the orange paint front of the rim tell a lot about Elton Brand. Typically, if the veteran All-Star has an inch to squeeze off a shot from the top of the key, the only rebound will be the one the opponent pulls from the net.

But lately those shots have been used to pad rebounding stats.

Brand is a 50 percent shooter from the floor during his 13-year career -- 51 percent last year -- but he is down to 47.7 percent this year. Only through one 37-game stretch between 2007 and 2009 did Brand shoot a lower percentage than he has this year.
