Vernon Davis: 'It is frustrating. But I'm a team guy'

"Niners tight end Vernon Davis said friends have contacted him with statistical requests prior his meeting against the Redskins on Sunday, his first NFL game back in his hometown.

"'Vernon, I need you to light it up this week – two touchdowns, 160 yards,'" Davis said, relaying those requests to the media today in front of his locker.

Two touchdowns and 160 yards? As 49ers fans and Davis' fantasy owners know, that's ridiculously optimistic given his recent production.

In his past four games, Davis has 12 catches for 119 yards and three touchdowns. He's had less than 48 yards receiving in six of seven games this season and is on pace to finish with 62 catches for 681 yards and seven touchdowns. Davis averaged 67 catches, 940 yards and 10 touchdowns from 2009-10.

Today, Davis, a native of Washington, D.C. who played at Maryland, acknowledged frustration with his statistical dip, but said he was a "team guy" who was going to do his job without complaints. He noted that the team's success made the situation easier.

"It means a lot to me to be 6-1 because I've never been in this position before," Davis said. "And like I said, if I can go and not get passes and then get into the Super Bowl and be Super Bowl MVP, that means a lot more to me.""
