"Tight end Vernon Davis took on the odd task of helping define Mike Singlatary as a head coach and now he seems to be doing the same thing with Jim Harbaugh. We all remember Singletary booting Davis off the sidelines after an in-game encounter in Singletary's first game as interim head coach.

After the 34-13 loss to Seattle on that October day in 2008, Singletary came out blazing in his post-game news conference with his now infamous "We want Winners" diatribe.

That glimpse into Singletary provided everyone with a view of his intensity, his over reliance on emotion, and his game-day style that relied too much on sideline challenges and not enough of X and O's adjustments, game management and play-calling.

So not two games into Harbaugh's tenure and there is Davis again. This time he's challenging his coach on getting the ball to his playmakers. Player and coach met and the result for Davis was an 8-catch, 114-yard day that helped upend Cincinnati. This vignette was also revealing."
