Blue Jackets center Antoine Vermette registered career-best numbers playing alongside Rick Nash a season ago.
In the past two games, Vermette has reprised his role and rewarded his coach and the team in the process.
Replacing an injured Derick Brassard, Vermette has two goals and two assists in wins over Chicago and Nashville.
"He has taken on a lot of responsibility," coach Scott Arniel said. "We've asked him to step up and keep that line rolling because those guys have been good for us. He has done a great job moving that puck to those two guys," linemates Nash and Jake Voracek.
Vermette was strong against former Ottawa teammate Mike Fisher in a 4-0 win Tuesday over Nashville. They went head to head most of the night with Vermette winning 58 percent of his faceoffs and making smart decisions with the puck.
