Manchester United’s hopes of signing Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan appear to have taken a turn for the worse with the news that Barcelona have entered the fray for the combative midfielder.

United have been tracking the German international, also a target for both Arsenal and Real Madrid, for some time while David Moyes is desperate to bolster his misfiring midfield.

But according to reports on the Spanish press, Gundogan’s father has already met with members of the Barcelona board as the Catalan giants try to steal a march on their rivals for the 23-year-old’s signature.
