"The Jaguars ended their preseason Thursday night with a scrambled backup quarterback situation and some old problems.
On a night when veteran Luke McCown was the second-team quarterback over rookie Blaine Gabbert, the Jaguars' starters had another lackluster showing.
The backups also struggled as third-team Rams quarterback Thaddeus Lewis put 17 points on the board in the second half while directing two touchdown drives to give the Rams a 24-17 victory at EverBank Field. The Jaguars finished the preseason 1-3.
Coach Jack Del Rio remained upbeat despite the team's preseason struggles.
"We have a good football team and we're going to be a good football team. We can't wait to get started,'' he said.
The Jaguars open the regular season a week from Sunday at home against Tennessee.
The debuts of running back Maurice Jones-Drew and defensive end Aaron Kampman didn't make much difference as the St. Louis starters did well in the first quarter while taking a 7-0 lead.
Jones-Drew rushed for 14 yards on five carries, all on one run. He had no yards in his other four carries and the offense managed just 54 yards in 18 plays against St. Louis' first-team defense."
