Tyutin Signs 6-Year $27 Million Contract Extension

"The Blue Jackets have signed veteran defenseman Fedor Tyutin to a six-year, $27 million contract extension.

Tyutin, who could have become an unrestricted free agent next summer, will earn $4 million in 2012-13, $4.5 million in 2013-14, $4.75 million in 2014-15, $5 million in 2015-16, $4.75 million in 2016-17 and $4 million in 2017-18. It includes a no-trade clause in the first three seasons and a modified no-trade in the final three.

"After signing James Wisniewski this summer ... it wouldn't have made much sense to sign James and let Fedor get away (next summer)," Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson told The Dispatch today. "We're trying to build a very good defense corps, and we think Fedor is a big part of that."
