"In the midst of a 12-game stretch against 12 teams with winning records, the Kings were going to be underdogs every night.
Being shorthanded doesn't help against one of the NBA's best teams doesn't help either.
So if anything could be taken from the Kings losing to the Dallas Mavericks, 116-100, Wednesday night at American Airlines Center, it's the Kings need every player available to have a chance.
The Kings were beaten by Oklahoma City by 30 points on Tuesday without Tyreke Evans and had to face the Mavericks without him.
Evans missed his second consecutive game with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
Evans absence led to some lineup shuffling. Jermaine Taylor started his second game for the Kings and led an inspired first quarter effort. Taylor scored 12 of his career-high 17 points in the first and the Kings ended the quarter tied with the Mavericks at 25.
The Mavericks took control in the second quarter, but blew a 13-point halftime lead to start the third quarter.
That game was tied at 70 with 6:24 to play when the Mavericks started making three pointers and closed the third on a 26-6 run.
"We had a couple turnovers," said Kings coach Paul Westphal. "A couple of shots that weren't the best shots, missed a couple shots and it seemed like they hit a three every time."
The Mavericks made 13 of 26 from the three-point range, led by Jason Kidd who made six of his seven attempts behind the arc.
Without Evans and Francisco Garcia, the Kings lack of depth in the backcourt was evident. The only guard left on the bench was Luther Head, who played 37 seconds after his 0-for-5, five-minute appearance to start Tuesday's loss at Oklahoma City.
Evans will visit Los Angeles-based foot specialist Dr. Richard Ferkel about his injured left foot.
Evans missed his second consecutive game with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Evans saw Ferkel in December about his foot. It was decided then that medication and treatment would allow Evans to continue to play."
