"The Red Wings will announce this morning that they have signed Ty Conklin to be the No. 2 guy next season, according to a source close to the situation.
When free agency began July 1, they went after Tomas Vokoun, and when he instead opted for more playing time in Washington, the Wings turned their eyes back to Chris Osgood.
Osgood decided he doesn't have it in him to keep playing and announced his retirement Tuesday.
Now Conklin is their man, for the second time around.
Conklin, 35, played for the Wings in 2008-09, going 25-11-2 with a .909 save percentage and 2.51 goals-against average. He spent the last two seasons with St. Louis.
Conklin has appeared in 200 NHL games, also playing for the Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins. He has appeared in two playoff games.
Conklin's signing wraps up the Wings' goaltending situation."
