Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton, a 2017 Gold Glove winner, was named Major League Baseball's top defender, Wilson announced on Friday.

Buxton, playing in his first full season, led American League center fielders in defensive WAR (according to Fangraphs), defensive runs saved and ultimate zone rating.

Los Angeles Angels' Andrelton Simmons was named top defender at shortstop a record fourth time in five years.

Wilson, which established this award in 2012, considers various defensive metrics in determining the nine individual and one team winners.
