Jeff Green had 31 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five blocks Friday night.

Jeff Green is not going to have 31 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five blocks every night.

But while numbers can come and go — based on myriad factors not limited to opposing defenses and the fact teammates might be more zoned in on a given evening — Jeff Green is too talented to not be a factor for the Celtics every night.

“We know he can do it,” said Doc Rivers. “We know it’s in him. And, no, he’s not going to do it every night, but I just like the way he played (in the win over the Suns). I like the speed he played at.

“He just needs to use his athleticism and be aggressive, but let the game come to him at the same time.”

If there has been an overriding criticism of Green in his young, brief career, it’s that he has been almost diffident — that he has yet to play consistently to the wondrous skill level he offers in snapshots that leave even his detractors gasping.
