Trent Edwards won't haunt Buffalo Bills

"Kicking off with thoughts on the release of Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards:

I've seen worse QBs in Bills history. Many of his predecessors would've been hard-pressed to match his 14-18 record under the circumstances.

But what did he do well?

He had the guts to take his lumps behind a substandard offensive line. Unfortunately, he had average-at-best mobility and was hurt a lot.

He didn't have a particularly strong arm and lacked touch on short-to-medium passes.

All things considered, it is surprising the current coaching staff saw enough in Edwards to start him for the first two games this season but not enough to keep him around.

I rate Rob Johnson and J.P. Losman above Edwards as QBs. They didn't return to haunt the Bills and I'll be shocked if Edwards does.

# My observations on Andrew Luck (Stanford) and Ryan Mallett (Arkansas) after Saturday's games (one of them could be the long-awaited "franchise quarterback" for the Bills in the 2011 draft):

LUCK — I've seen him sharper than he was in the 37-14 victory at Notre Dame, but he was 19 of 32 for 238 yards, with 1 TD pass and 2 uncharacteristic interceptions. He had only four carries for 23 yards but displayed the mobility advantage he enjoys over Mallett and Jake Locker (Washington).

MALLETT — He has an exceptional arm but he's 6-foot-7 and is not nimble. He had a huge first half against Alabama and wound up 25 of 38 for 357 yards with 1 TD and 3 costly INTs — all in the second half — as the top-ranked Crimson Tide rallied to win 24-20."
