The 27-year-old not only missed out on Roy Hodgson’s 23-strong squad for this summer’s World Cup but wasn’t selected among this seven standby players for the tournament.

Having appeared in the previous two World Cups during his 21-game international career, Lennon’s form has dipped over the past couple of seasons. He managed just one goal in 33 appearances for Spurs last season and is widely expected to leave this summer.

Despite having spent nine years with their London rivals since a bargain £1million signing from Leeds, Lennon could just be the kind of signing to excite West Ham fans who have expressed frustration at the style of football under manager Sam Allardyce.
