Tottenham have suffered a setback in their renewed efforts to sign Croatian starlet Alen Halilovic from Dinamo Zagreb with the player's father seemingly blocking the move.

Spurs were close to a £10m deal for Halilovic over the summer but according to reports in Italy the north London club initiated new talks over the 17-year-old.

According to Sky Sports Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzo Spurs are willing to offer €20m (£17m) for the youngster a fee which exceeds the player's €15m (£13m) release clause.

Dinamo are keen to sell with the player's contract at the club due to expire in the summer but Halilovic's father Sejad is currently blocking the move.

Halilovic snr. a coach at Dinamo wants guarantees from Tottenham about his son's playing time before sanctioning the move.

It is thought that Tottenham would prefer to bring Halilovic through the club's youth set-up but Sejad Halilovic is not keen on that idea given that his son has already won three senior international caps for Croatia.

Instead Halilovic snr. wants clauses inserted into any contract that would see his son guaranteed a certain number of first-team appearances in which he plays for at least 45 minutes.
