Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Valencia striker Roberto Soldado for a club-record fee.

A deal between the two clubs was agreed on Friday believed to be £26million with the 28-year-old now passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Soldado scored 24 goals in 35 Liga appearances last season and will provide competition for places in Andre Villas-Boas' starting line-up.

Following the departure of Clint Dempsey to Seattle Sounders Tottenham had just two recognised strikers on their books - Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.
