"Despite another in an unending series of injuries over his 12 seasons with the Cubs, there doesn't seem to be any doubt Kerry Wood will be back for another shot in 2012.
Wood announced before a 5-2 victory over the Brewers on Monday night that he tore the meniscus in his left knee over the weekend and would miss the final nine games before undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.
He suffered the injury Saturday while squatting a few hours after the game against the Astros.
"Just squatted down and stood up, and (it) popped, and sharp pain and burning," he said. "That's the way it goes. I'm glad it happened now instead of getting through the season and going into spring and having something happen. Then you miss a month-and-a-half right out of the gate.""
