"There is drama in the building.
So much so you could almost hear scene-setting music in the background as Kris Brown plodded through the locker room, fresh off the trainer's table where he'd received treatment for plantar fasciitis on his precious right foot.
Brown, wearing a walking boot, was not at Monday's practice with his Texans teammates.
The only kicker the franchise has known might have but a single workout left as a Texan. That could be today. The team will have a walk-through Wednesday and play its final preseason game against Tampa Bay on Thursday night.
Friday, Brown either will be named the Texans' kicker for the 2010 season or asked to clear out his locker.
"It's going to be a tough call," coach Gary Kubiak said of the decision he has to make between Brown and newcomer Neil Rackers. "We started equal, let them go at it head-to-head, and it's still right there. I've just got to make a tough decision. But we'll take everything into account.""
