"Where do first-round picks Marcus Morris and Donatas Motiejunas, second-round pick Chandler Parsons and third-year guard Jonny Flynn fit in the Rockets' plans?
Rockets brass say at this point, the four newcomers acquired in Thursday night's draft are a long way from taking the court to play in Rockets uniforms.
And though World Peace will come to the NBA before labor peace, they're not referring to the likely lengthy lockout that is looming.
In case you are unaware, Ron Artest petitioned a Los Angeles court to change his name to Metta World Peace. (And yes, I support Artest's move and wish him the very best. I have no doubt that the name change comes from a good place in his heart. Before you scoff, all I am saying, is give Peace a chance.)
The relative lack of excitement from fans about the Rockets' draft-day take is understandable. There isn't a sure all-star in the bunch.
Not unless you believe Morris' proclamation to the Kansas City Star.
"You can't see the future," Morris said, "but I definitely, definitely, definitely think I'm going to be one of those guys who's an All-Star in the league."
Gotta love that confidence. A team would rather have players who believe than players who are uncertain.
There is more reason to believe in Flynn, picked up in a trade with Minnesota, than the three forwards.
Should any of the three rookies average 13.5 points and 4.4 assists a game as Flynn did in his first season with the Timberwolves (2009-10), his season would be deemed a huge success.
On point
Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been unable to acquire a quality big man during his tenure, which in part has led to the Moreyonic decision to start Chuck Hayes at center the past two years, but there is no doubting his ability to spot good point guards
Morey's first draft pick as general manager was Aaron Brooks, who was named the league's most improved player in his third season.
In a three-team deal, he moved veteran Rafer Alston for Memphis' little-used Kyle Lowry, who has turned into one of the top up-and-coming point guards in the league.
Last season, Morey traded the injured and disgruntled Brooks to Phoenix for Goran Dragic, who played well in the last quarter of the season.
Now, he brings in Flynn, who is listed as No. 3 behind Lowry and Dragic. There is room on the roster, but not in the rotation for three point guards."
