"As he looked ahead to the 2012 season, Titans Coach Mike Munchak declared the starting quarterback position up for grabs between veteran Matt Hasselbeck and highly touted Jake Locker.
It's easy to believe Munchak would consider making the transition to Locker, after the 2011 first-round pick spent his rookie year watching and learning behind Hasselbeck.
But three national football analysts and former NFL players — all of whom covered the Titans at some point during the second half of the 2011 season — believe Hasselbeck should remain the starter, reasoning that his experience and savvy still make him a better choice than the team's quarterback of the future.
"The way to look at this is that Locker may have a stronger body, a stronger arm and may be faster, but quarterback is about winning with your head and managing games," NFL on CBS analyst Solomon Wilcots said. "And Hasselbeck is very smart. He doesn't get enough credit for his intelligence.
"He is still a more complete quarterback, period. You're going to win more games right now with Hasselbeck than with Locker, and Locker is better for playing behind this guy. I'd like to see that happen for another year or two.""
