"The Titans played dominoes with the Dolphins quarterbacks on Sunday, knocking them down — and out — one after another.
Chad Pennington, making his first start of the season, was sidelined after just two plays with a shoulder injury. Chad Henne left in the third quarter with a knee injury.
"We are a physical front four and things like that happen,'' said Titans defensive end Jason Babin, who delivered the hit on Pennington. "It should be to our advantage. You knock out the first one, knock out the second one. You'd think that would have helped us. … But they came back with some answers.''
The Dolphins came back with No. 3 quarterback Tyler Thigpen, who finished off the Titans. It was reminiscent of Week 2 when Charlie Batch replaced an injured Dennis Dixon and helped the Steelers smack the Titans at LP Field.
But the defense had plenty of reasons to be disgusted with itself against the Dolphins.
"At that point, it wasn't about the third string QB,'' safety Chris Hope said. "It was about the momentum they had seized in the game. It was all about mistakes we made as a defense. … They made a few plays on us without a quarterback in the game.''
Henne was 19-of-28 for 240 yards and a touchdown when he went down in the second half, leaving the Dolphins in a quarterback pickle.
The Dolphins victimized the Titans by turning to the Wildcat formation they ran so successfully last season.
After a series of Wildcat gains while the Dolphins made sure Henne would be unable to return, Thigpen came off the bench and went 4-of-6 for 64 yards and a touchdown."
