"Just like the previous 10 summers, Keith Bulluck will return to Nashville today, just a few days before the start of another Titans training camp.
Only today, Bulluck will be in town to pack his bags. He's headed back to New York on Wednesday, ready to join his new team, the Giants. The longtime Titans linebacker admits it's going to take some getting used to.
"It's going to be a little weird at first; the Titans are the only team I've known,'' Bulluck said on Sunday night, one day after signing a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Giants. "But I am sure I'll get over it quick.
"Let's just say this is going to be a new chapter in my book. A new fire has been lit. I have always played with a chip on my shoulder and that chip has gotten even bigger with everything that has transpired. I wish the Titans the best. I have no hard feelings. But I can't wait to play in New York. I love new challenges.''
Bulluck, a first-round draft pick by the Titans in 2000, said no one should feel sorry for him, either.
While the torn left ACL he suffered against the Dolphins in December might've cost the 10-year veteran a chance for a more lucrative long-term deal this offseason, he said it's not the reason his days as a Titan have now ended.
Despite leading the team in tackles six of the past eight seasons (2002-06, '08), Bulluck said it became clear long ago the Titans no longer valued him.
"The knee, I don't think that was (the reason) they didn't re-sign me,'' said Bulluck, who became an unrestricted free agent in March. "I thought when last season started it was my last year, and me hurting my knee just made it easier for them to say "Well, he's hurt, that's why we're not bringing him back.' It was a 'save face' deal or whatever.
"It's a business, and that's OK. I just wasn't in their plans.''
Still, Bulluck said he's not upset. He said he joins a long list of players such as Steve McNair, Derrick Mason, Eddie George and Samari Rolle."
