"The Titans have landed their guy at quarterback.
The team on Wednesday morning agreed to terms with former Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Hasselbeck will sign a multi-year deal with the Titans, where he’ll work alongside rookie Jake Locker.
Exact terms aren’t immediately known.
Hasselbeck, 35, was the team’s top veteran choice at the position this offseason, even before Kerry Collins’ decision to retire earlier this month. He has ties to the team’s front office from his days in Seattle, and also a relationship with Locker.
In his 12th NFL season, Hasselbeck threw for 3,001 yards, 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 2010. During his career he’s been named to three Pro Bowls while throwing for 29,579 yards, 176 touchdowns and 128 interceptions, with a quarterback rating of 82.2.
Hasselbeck’s future began coming into focus on Tuesday when the Seahawks informed him they planned to go in a different direction at the position. After getting inquiries from a number of other NFL teams, Hasselbeck began to focus on the Titans, who informed him when free agency began he was their guy.
Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt, along with two other members of the team’s front office – Ruston Webster and Lake Dawson – know Hasselbeck well from their days with the Seahawks. Hasselbeck also has a relationship with Locker, a former Washington standout who he’s worked with in Seattle."
