When was the last time Erik Gustafsson played in a game for the Flyers?

The answer: Feb. 27 – after the Olympic break – as the Flyers awaited Kimmo Timonen’s return from Sochi. That was 14 games ago.

It now appears the 25-year-old defenseman will again replace Timonen on Tuesday night in St. Louis when the Flyers face the Blues.

Timonen, who was struck by a puck on the chin during Sunday’s 4-3 shootout loss to Boston, did not accompany the Flyers to St. Louis on Monday afternoon.

Officially, he is listed as day-to-day. His injury is not considered serious. General manager Paul Holmgren, who remains tight-lipped about this injury, told CSNPhilly.com that Timonen did not suffer a facial fracture.

"He will be fine," Holmgren said via text message.

Gustafsson has not played since last replacing Timonen. The acquisition of Andrew McDonald at the trade deadline further pushed Gustafsson down the list to get into the lineup.
