Timberwolves send Corey Brewer to Knicks, picking up Anthony Randolph, Eddy Curry

"Carmelo Anthony is getting his wish, and the New York Knicks are getting a second superstar. The Timberwolves helped make it all possible.

In a three-team, 12-player deal, the Knicks acquired Anthony, veteran guard Chauncey Billups, forward Shelden Williams, guard Anthony Carter and swingman Renaldo Balkman from the Denver Nuggets, according to the Denver Post, and sent Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks' 2014 first-round pick and a pair of future second-round picks previously acquired from Golden State in the David Lee trade.

As part of the shuffling, the Timberwolves acquired Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry from the Knicks and sent Corey Brewer to New York, according to ESPN.

Randolph is a 21-year-old forward the Wolves reportedly have pursued in the past. He was drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2008 draft. In two-plus seasons with the Warriors and Knicks, he is averaging 8.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Curry's only value to the Timberwolves is the fact he has a contract that expires after this season. He hasn't appeared in a game since last season and has never lived up to the promise that made him the fourth overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft.

Brewer was drafted by the Wolves with the seventh pick of the 2007 draft. He started in 22 of 56 games this season, averaging 8.6 points and 2.7 rebounds a game.

The deal that would end the season-long trade saga involving Denver's all-star forward and send him to his desired destination can't be finalized until today during a conference call with the NBA office. Assuming it goes through, it puts Anthony alongside Amare Stoudemire in a potentially explosive frontcourt — at a heavy cost to the Knicks. "
