"In the few minutes that Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn talked to the media Thursday night near the end of the NBA draft, he was very clear on two subjects: He would take no questions on coach Kurt Rambis, and Arizona forward Derrick Williams, the player he chose with the No. 2 pick, will not be used to swing a trade.

"We did not draft Williams to put him in a deal," Kahn said. "He's staying."

As for Rambis, already fired according to reports that surfaced Wednesday night, Kahn said, "There is no news to share on the process."

Kahn also did not clarify a number of potential trades the Wolves reportedly made Thursday night, including one deal that sent point guard Jonny Flynn to Houston in exchange for 13-year veteran center Brad Miller and a future first-round pick. The Wolves also sent their No. 20 pick, 7-foot Lithuanian center Donatas Motiejunas, to the Rockets.

Kahn said on the final day of the 2010-11 season that Flynn might benefit from a "change of scenery." Flynn's play suffered a dramatic plunge last season during a slow recovery from hip surgery, and he became even more expendable with the signing of Spanish guard Ricky Rubio, who attended the Wolves' draft party at Target Center.

Deals with Memphis and Chicago, mainly involving late first- and second-round picks, will not be confirmed until today when Kahn joins Williams for his introductory news conference at Target Center. "
