Corey Brewer said he "was messing around" when he predicted he'd score 30 points before Friday night's game against Houston.

The Timberwolves forward is averaging 11.7 points per game, and that total would have topped his career high by one point.

Then he banked in a halfcourt shot to beat the buzzer and give himself 26 in the first half.

"I knew it was a good night when I banked it in," Brewer said.

The second half was more of the same as he slipped, squirmed and sashayed his way to a franchise-record-tying 51 points in a 112-110 win over the Rockets at Target Center.

"I ain't gonna lie: 5-O!" Brewer said. "You know how many guys score 50 in the NBA? That's what makes it such a good night, because I never expected in my career to score 50.

... There's a lot of good company up there."

Brewer, who tied Kevin Love's team single-game scoring record, is the fourth player to score 50-plus points and grab six-plus steals in a game, joining Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson and Rick Barry, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

When he eclipsed 50 at the free-throw line late in the fourth quarter, the Target Center crowd of 16,689 gave him a standing ovation.

Houston's James Harden had 33 points, including a game-tying three-pointer with 17 seconds remaining, but Gorgui Dieng's jumper with four seconds left sealed it for the Wolves.

Brewer was in a zone on defense, too. His six steals added to a career-best run of four games with four or more.

The Wolves (40-39) desperately needed Brewer's scoring punch without Love, who was a late scratch because of a hyperextended elbow suffered Wednesday night against Chicago.

Nos. 2 and 3 scorers Kevin Martin and Nikola Pekovic sat out as well, and Wolves coach Rick Adelman said he was concerned about who would score.

Dante Cunningham, who started in place of Love, answered with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Dieng finished with 12 points and 20 boards.

The Wolves had 39 fast-break points, a franchise single-game high since at least 1996. Before that, records were incomplete. They also shot a perfect 15 for 15 on the break.
