Tight end Marcedes Lewis to test sore right calf on Friday

"Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis will test a strain in his right calf by running on it for the first time Friday.

Until then, the Pro Bowl selection will rest the injury and undergo treatment.

"I know when I'm at my best, I give our team a better shot of winning," Lewis said. "That's why it's annoying. It's frustrating."

Lewis, who did not practice Wednesday, suffered the injury during the season opener. He thought he had a leg cramp and told coach Jack Del Rio that. Del Rio sent Lewis into the locker room to get an IV treatment, after which it didn't feel better.

"I thought this is not a cramp," Lewis said. "… If it was a cramp, the whole muscle would've contracted. It was only one spot where I felt it. It's slightly strained. I'm doing everything I can to see how it is on Sunday."

The Jaguars were thin at tight end before Lewis' injury because backup tight end Zach Miller was out with a knee injury.

Miller said he practiced fully Wednesday and expected to be full-go during today's fully padded practice.

"Hopefully, we can all be out there and contribute in some way," Miller said. "Eighty-five percent Marcedes Lewis is better than no Marcedes Lewis. But you also don't want to set him back."

CB Derek Cox not expected to play

Jaguars cornerback Derek Cox did not practice Wednesday and isn't expected to play Sunday.

"All I know right now is they told me to take it easy until next week, when I get checked out again by the doctors," Cox said.

Cox suffered a chest injury Sunday just before halftime. He leaped in the air to breakup a pass, nearly intercepted it and then landed on his back.

Cox needed some help leaving the field.

"I thought it just knocked the wind out of me," Cox said. "That's the only thing I experienced.""
