"Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez had some tough words for his friend and countryman, Miguel Cabrera, after arriving at spring training Friday.

"He's my teammate, we're going to support him because he needs support," Ordonez said shortly after noon. "Like everybody knows, he made a mistake. You're not supposed to drive drunk on the road. Now he has to deal with the consequences."

Cabrera was arrested in Florida late Wednesday night, on suspicion of drunken driving. The first baseman also was charged with resisting arrest.

Ordonez and Cabrera, Venezuela natives, worked out together several times this offseason, and Ordonez is hopeful his friend can get his focus on baseball again.

"Hopefully he gets himself together and will be ready to play baseball," Ordonez said. "As a teammate, I'm gonna do my best to help him out.""
