Tigers prospect Nick Castellanos has been converted from a third baseman to an outfielder because his path to the major leagues was blocked by Miguel Cabrera.

On Monday, MLB.com recognized Castellanos as the No. 6 outfield prospect.

He has been invited to spring training with a chance to make the major-league roster, although the Tigers have plenty of other outfield options to start the year.

"We're looking for a right-handed complement. Garcia and Castellanos I think both fall under the same category," GM Dave Dombrowski told the Associated Press on Monday about Avisail Garcia and Castellanos. "They'll come to spring training with an opportunity to make the club, but we're also in a position where if they're going to make the club, they're going to have to play a lot. So we're not going to give them 40 games and a limited number of at-bats."
