"After wondering about his future this offseason, Matt Thornton hopes to maximize an apparent second chance to seize the White Sox's closer role he quickly lost in 2011.

"I'd love to get another shot at it," Thornton said Wednesday from his Phoenix-area home. "I don't like the way I lost it last year. Part of it was bad luck, and part of it was bad timing, especially at that time in my career."

As of now, Thornton is ahead of rookie Addison Reed for the role vacated when Sergio Santos was traded to the Blue Jays."
