There are times when Tom Thibodeau obfuscates particularly when it comes to injury updates. And there are others when he is completely direct and clear.

The Bulls coach took the latter approach when discussing Jimmy Butler on Saturday.

"Jimmy has changed" Thibodeau said. "He's in a different place and I think there are some different things we can change to take advantage of what he does well."

Running the fast break alongside a certain athletic and explosive returning point guard comes to mind. So does suffocating defense alongside Luol Deng.

Butler's emergence last season won him the starting shooting guard position. And Thibodeau who picks his spots with such praise truly couldn't stop raving about Butler.

"Jimmy is very deceiving" Thibodeau said. "He's an excellent athlete very explosive very quick to the ball. That tells you how he sees the game. His reaction to the ball is special. He's very quick strong can think ahead very strong.''

Thibodeau may have paused for a breath before continuing.

"I get a kick in the offseason everyone's had a great summer everyone looks good but Jimmy actually puts the work in" he said. "He doesn't have to say anything. You look at him and his actions tell you what he's doing. There are no shortcuts with him. He puts the work in and gives you a solid day's work.''

Part of that work featured Butler spending a week training alongside Derrick Rose at Rose's offseason base outside Los Angeles. This gesture impressed Rose.
