"Now that teams can sign David Garrard without having to pay his $8 million salary, the former Jaguars quarterback won't be out of work very long.
Whether as a starter or backup, Garrard is going to help a team this season.
Garrard started 68 games in the last five years until he was surprisingly cut last week, five days before the season opener. While nobody ever confused the Jaguars' second all-time leading passer with Johnny Unitas, enough teams have quarterback issues to make the serviceable Garrard a valuable addition. Did you see Kerry Collins on Sunday? Or Tarvaris Jackson? Or Donovan McNabb?
Garrard might not be a long-term answer for the Colts, Seahawks or any other team, but he can help win games and bridge the gap to the club's next young quarterback. And now his price is right.
For better or worse, the 1-0 Jaguars have moved on without Garrard. But it's likely the Jaguars will see him again — as an opponent."
