"Scott Pioli isn't here to show you around. He's back in Kansas City, working, but that's no problem. He called some friends to help.
Friends are never far here, ordinary friends and famous ones. They walk Main Street, past Martelli's Soccer Shop or down Highway 94 to Weir's Ice Cream, landmarks of a place you've never heard of that's home to some of the country's most successful people — world business leaders, Hollywood moguls, World Series champions, soccer pioneers and even a Victoria's Secret model.
This place doesn't look like much. Two stoplights. A library with gorgeous stained glass windows. A few banks, lots of churches, lots of bars.
Three chains (Subway, Dunkin Donuts, AutoZone) are making it, but only after a fight. Burger King came in about 30 years ago but quickly closed, message received that the locals look out for their own like John's Deli or F&J's Pizza rather than some national corporation.
So, no. This place doesn't look like much. But then, looking can't begin to tell Washingtonville's story. There's a little bit of magic here. Has to be. How else to explain it?"
