"The Trail Blazers and representatives for Nicolas Batum met Friday in San Antonio to discuss a contract extension for the backup small forward, but were unable to reach an immediate agreement.

Interim GM Chad Buchanan, team salary cap specialist Joe Cronin and Batum's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, met in a negotiation session Friday morning and exchanged proposals. Buchanan refused to discuss details of the talks, but labeled them "typical negotiations."

"We're still talking through everything," Buchanan said. "We're trying to find something that makes sense for both sides."

It was the second time the Blazers and Ndiaye have talked and first time they've exchanged financial numbers. Buchanan said the sides did not schedule another meeting, but do plan on holding another round of talks soon. Ndiaye is scheduled to be in Portland on Jan. 23, so it's possible a meeting will take place then. "
