The injury's still out on intense Quentin

"Carlos Quentin was back in the starting lineup Saturday, going 0-for-4 in the White Sox' second consecutive loss to the Minnesota Twins.

The moody outfielder again was reluctant to discuss his injured right hand -- bruised from being hit by a pitch Wednesday -- which caused him to be a late scratch Friday night. The question is whether Quentin's injury history is starting to give him a reputation as injury-prone, or if he's simply a guy who has had some bad luck.

Quentin went on the disabled list in the final month of 2008 after he fractured his right hand hitting his own bat. Last season there was a foot problem, and this year an array of dings and dents.

''Through his career, well, the biggest one was stupid when he broke his hand with the bat -- you can control that,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said. ''Last year was his foot. That happens. When you play that hard the way he plays, you're taking a lot of risk. When he dove for the ball [almost two weeks ago] in Chicago, I held my breath.

''This kid comes out there and gives you 200 percent every time. He plays only one way, and it's the only way he knows how to play. He got some freaky injuries, but when he hit the bat, he learned from that. Every time he hits, he's on top of the plate and has a chance to get hit a lot, but that's the way he plays.''

The Sox have tried to get Quentin -- who has been hit 13 times this season -- to wear some padding on his arms because of how close he stands to the plate. But it has fallen on deaf ears."
