The Texas Rangers have signed right-hander Zach Russell to a minor-league contract.

Russell, 24, became a minor-league free agent after spending seven years in the St. Louis organization. He reached the Double-A level for the first time this season, going 0-2 with an 8.16 ERA in 14 1/3 innings. He also had 15 strikeouts and has averaged 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings in his career.

Russell was a 49th-round pick in the 2007 draft out of Camden, Ark., Harmony Grove High School
