Trevor Bauer had a couple of tough outings for Triple-A Columbus recently, but Indians manager Terry Francona isn’t alarmed.

“It’s probably just normal inconsistency of guys at that level,” he said. “We’ve also talked to guys down there about using certain pitches.”

In other words, Bauer might be throwing a particular pitch to increase its effectiveness rather than to try to get a batter out.

Bauer also has been trying to overhaul his mechanics since spring training.

“Last year, a groin injury kind of messed him up,” Francona said. “He definitely is working on a change in his delivery. He said in spring training that he was as uncomfortable as he’s ever been. But he’s excited about where he’s at now.”
