Terrell Owens has knee surgery

"Bengals wide receiver Terrell Owens, according to his own Twitter account, traveled to Birmingham, Ala., Monday and had surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews to repair torn meniscus cartilage in his left knee.

Owens left Sunday's 19-17 win against Cleveland after the Bengals' sixth play of the game, hobbling as he headed to the sideline.

Coach Marvin Lewis said Monday that Owens' season was finished, although the Bengals had not made an official roster move.

Owens ends the season with team-leading totals of 72 catches for 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

He said Sunday that he originally injured the knee against New Orleans Dec. 5 but played the last two games.

Third-year receivers Andre Caldwell and Jerome Simpson saw increased playing time against the Browns with the injury to Owens and a nagging ankle injury to Chad Ochocinco.

Caldwell and Simpson combined for six catches for 119 yards."
