Terrell Owens dubs Jets' Darrelle Revis 'just an average corner'

"In 2007, Terrell Owens said he didn't know who then-rookie Darrelle Revis was. This year, he knows, but he made clear he wasn't impressed with the Jets cornerback.

"Just an average corner to me," the Bengals receiver said of Revis today, in advance of their Thanksgiving night match-up

Revis has said he expects to be matched up on Owens, who has 897 receiving yards and eight touchdowns this season, while teammate Antonio Cromartie will take Chad Ochocinco.

Revis fared well last season against Owens, then with Buffalo, holding him to three catches in each of two games. Owens said his production was a result of being "not really involved in the offense," but he has made mental notes of how Revis assessed his play after those games -- including when Revis put the "slouch" label on Owens and Randy Moss in a January spot on the NFL Network.

Revis' comments about Owens were far milder this week -- he called him a "great receiver" and said he is playing well this year -- but "slouch" stuck with Owens.

"I heard it. It's in the back of my mind," Owens said, adding later: "No disrespect, but he's only done one thing for one year. You talk about shut-down corners, you need to repeatedly do it year in and year out. I think he did it one year and everybody made a lot of hoopla about it. I think he started feeling himself, then he wanted to come out and say that I am a slouch.""
