"As a kid growing up in Baltimore, Mark Teixeira used to emulate Eddie Murray's switch-hitting ways in the backyard. Tuesday night, he wiped Murray out of the record books.
Teixeira homered from both sides of the plate in the Yankees' 6-0 win over the White Sox, the 12th time in his career he's accomplished the feat. That moved the first baseman past Murray and Chili Davis for the most in history.
"There's a lot of failure in this game, there's no doubt," Teixeira said. "When you can put your name in the record books for something like this? Being a switch hitter is very tough and this was a nice night for me."
Teixeira is second in the majors with 31 home runs, trailing Toronto's Jose Bautista by one. Teixeira has now recorded 30 homers or more in eight straight seasons, including each of his first three with the Yankees. Babe Ruth, Roger Maris and Alex Rodriguez are the only others to hit 30-plus homers in their first three seasons in pinstripes."
