"Jorge Cantu believes the Padres have enough bats to turn it around.
"We've got the guys in here with the track records to get it done," Cantu said Sunday afternoon after he hit a three-run homer to lead the Padres to a 4-3 win over Arizona at Petco Park.
"I just think we're pressing. Everyone is trying to do too much. It's time to go back to where it started and forget about the past."
Meaning …
"We shouldn't worry about the last at-bat or the last game or the last week," Cantu continued. "We can play with any team. We have the guys to do it. We just have to execute like we all learned to do a long time ago and not worry about what's happened so far this season.
"We've been trying too hard. Hopefully, everyone gets over the hump."
Cantu's homer was the Padres' first three-run homer of the season.
Maybin to the rescue
Arizona had runners at the corners with one out in the eighth and the Padres leading 4-2 when former Padre Xavier Nady drove a ball deep to left center.
Center fielder Cameron Maybin made a diving catch at the warning track in front of the 401-foot sign, then flipped the ball to Ryan Ludwick for a throw to the infield to freeze the runner at first.
Nady was credited with a sacrifice fly that made it 4-3, although Maybin's catch kept the game from being tied."
