Taylor: Wasn't trying to criticize Del Rio

"Running back Fred Taylor clarified his remarks about the Patriots looking at more film than the Jaguars in a conference call on Wednesday and said he didn't mean to criticize coach Jack Del Rio.

"It's kind of a like a text message,'' he said. "He didn't hear my tone. He didn't know if I was laughing or joking. He didn't hear any of that. We'll talk. I have the utmost respect of him.''

Taylor, though, said a "little piece of me'' didn't like Del Rio's suggestion that he wasn't a veteran leader.

"I thought I was by actions. I've always said I led by actions. Because he didn't hear the tone, the perception is "maybe Fred was talking down on us.'' I wasn't and I never will. I'm going to be a Jaguar the rest of my life. I would never do that,'' Taylor said.

He added he would never take a shot at Del Rio.

"You never burn bridges. Why would I burn bridges? I would never say that even if I felt that way. I have no problems with Jack. I really don't,'' Taylor said.

Taylor said he was referring to the fact that a group of Patriots get together Wednesdays after work for more film study. And he said he wasn't talking about the Patriots as a whole, but position groups.

Of his suggestion that Jacksonville could lose the team to Los Angeles, he said, "Sometimes the truth hurts. If the fans want to stay there, they have to show that they want the team to stay there.''

He said the NFL plans to move a team to Los Angeles eventually and added "Part of it was me being a funny guy. I don't want to offend anyone. Never do, but you've got to be realistic.''

He declined to discuss whether he'll play on Sunday and listed himself as questionable. He took part in the entire practice Wednesday.

Foes still friends

Running backs coach Kennedy Pola, who coached Taylor the last four years, will have a reunion with Taylor Sunday. He said they still keep in touch and talk frequently.

"He was one of those rare athletes I've been around and he's a good young man,'' he said.

He also said Taylor always had his notebook out in meetings and asked a lot of questions.

Pola's said his toughest job the last three years was balancing the time between Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, but said they're both unselfish players and would sometimes suggest the other player was better suited to run a certain play.

He said that he has no problems risking Jones-Drew on kickoff returns because Jones-Drew is so eager to do it, but pulled him off that duty in the second half against the Colts because of the stamina factor.

Pola said placing Greg Jones on the injured reserve list was a setback, adding the Jaguars needed two players (Montell Owens and Brock Bolen) to replace him. He said Jones was a positive presence on and off the field.

He also said that rookie Rashad Jennings was making progress after getting over the "wow'' factor that he was in the NFL."
