Swansea are on the brink of signing World Cup star Jefferson Montero for £4million.

The Ecuadorian winger was wanted by Premier League rivals West Ham and Southampton, but has agreed to join Garry Monk's side pending a medical, and will fly into London shortly to complete the formalities of his move to the Liberty Stadium.

Montero will sign from Mexican club Monarcas de Morelia, but has La Liga experience with Real Betis, Villarreal and Levante.

He will sign on a three-year deal, with the club retaining an option for a fourth.

Montero could make his Premier League debut against international teammate and Ecuador captain Antonio Valencia when Swansea take on Manchester United on the opening weekend of the season.
