Suns veteran Steve Nash: 'We can be a good team'

"Steve Nash is frozen in body and thought near the US Airways Center security office, a frigid section in the underbelly of his basketball home for the past 7½ years.

Nash is attached in both contract and heart to the arena and the Suns, although lately that could feel like putting your tongue on a frozen pole, considering the icy predictions by some observers for this season. As he protects his body with a coat and scarf, Nash tries to profess his loyalty but remains warm to any passer-by.

"Steve, so few guys in your category, pal!" a Bob Seger concert roadie interjects.

"Thank you," Nash said.

"It's been a pleasure watching you."

"Appreciate it, thanks," Nash said.

"Have a good year."

"Thank you," Nash said.

"Like you do every year. You're in a world of your own."

"Thanks, man," Nash said.

Nash is unceasingly appreciative of what he has in Phoenix, though many others have kept an eye on his exit door. Speculation is unavoidable, because his career window and the Suns' ability to compete are closing simultaneously. Nash says he doesn't ponder leaving and only imagines remaining with the Suns until retirement, but then there is another interruption.

"How do I get out?" the woman asks Nash, as if he were a security guard.

"Go this way and go up the elevator," Nash said."
