Suns' Jason Richardson injured, may miss Spurs game

"As Leandro Barbosa mends, Jason Richardson hurts.

That could leave the Suns (16-8) without either of their regular shooting guards for Tuesday night's home game against San Antonio.

Barbosa is still about 10 days from returning from a left-ankle sprain, although he began some jogging Monday. Richardson might not be able to play Tuesday night against the Spurs (12-9) because of a sprained his right hand suffered during the first quarter of Saturday's loss at Denver.

Richardson tried to poke the ball away from a Nuggets player but missed and jammed his hand into the player's midsection. He left the game at the time but returned, playing only 16 minutes over the final three quarters.

Richardson's hand swelled overnight. On Monday, he was held out of practice and checked by team physician Thomas Carter. He also had X-rays taken, which were negative.

"It's a day-to-day thing," Richardson said. "We'll get a lot of treatment and lots of ice on it (Monday night) and see how it is. Hopefully, the swelling goes down. I hope it's not that painful because I'll still go out there and play some defense, get some rebounds, do something."

The edema, a fluid accumulation, is on the back side of his right hand and limits his ability to flex it for shooting."
