P.K. Subban stepped on the ice in a Canadiens unifom for the first time in 11 months Wednesday, participating in an optional skate at Scotiabank Place.

Subban, who agreed to a two-year, $5.75-million contract on Monday, was joined on the ice by goaltender Peter Budaj - he'll be the starter Wednesday night against the Ottawa Senators (7 p.m., TSN, RDS, TSN 690 Radio) - and healthy scratches Yannick Weber and Michael Blunden.

Assistant coach Clement Jodoin ran the three skaters through a variety of passing and shooting drills. The real work for Subban will begin later this week when he joins his teammates in practices that will introduce him to coach Michel Therrien's system.
